Things:
- I have the best behind-the-desk snack today. I stopped at the grocery store before lunch and availed myself of their bulk section to buy honey roasted peanuts and sunflower seeds and dried cranberries and blueberries and raisins. It is awesome and cost maybe two dollars because I didn't buy a lot of anything. I am totally happy with it.
- My manager informed me this morning that now we are actually being required to wear our nametags. Grr. I hate nametags. However, my manager totally agrees with me and has said that I can wear it on the hem of my shirt or my sleeve or something as long as I technically have it on. So that's something.
- Along with all the superhero comics, I have started rereading Transmetropolitan. Which is still awesome and also appropriate, considering how much Mitt Romney reminds me of the Smiler. (I am pretty sure that Paul Ryan wasn't grown in a vat but I suppose you never know.)
- Not only do I have the Bainbridge horror movie fest to look forward to, but my coworker has just informed me that the little theater in Kingston is going to be showing Rocky Horror the weekend before Halloween. I probably won't be doing anything but watching my own movies on the actual day - Wednesday is a stupid day for Halloween - but it looks like the weekend will be pretty awesome.
- It is cool enough that I am comfortable wearing knee socks and long sleeves. Hurrah.

Date: 2012-10-02 09:59 pm (UTC)I did just actually adjust my midtown comics subscription because it is dumb for me to pay $20 a month for shipping when I can get them all shipped at once and qualify for free shipping by throwing on just a few extra things. >.>
I may be up to like 16 different titles. Um.

Date: 2012-10-02 10:02 pm (UTC)It...is entirely possible that I'm up to something like 15 titles now, yeah. This is like a sickness. (It is also possible that I have read over half of all the comics where Wally West is the Flash in the past, oh, three weeks. I swear, I used to do things other than reading comics.)

Date: 2012-10-02 10:12 pm (UTC)And, see, that is why I mostly read comics from a decade ago and wait till I can marathon tv shows. Because I am ridiculously impatient. (And want to be able to look up spoilers on the internet.)

I don't know any of these things. :(

Date: 2012-10-02 10:26 pm (UTC)The more I read pre-New 52 DC comics, the more I am confused about things that are happening now. Like, okay, Barry Allen is the Flash again, so...does Wally just not exist at all? Has he not been born yet? Why do we have a Bart Allen who has speedster powers but apparently isn't Barry's grandson or from the future? (Let us not touch on the fact that Batman has apparently not been rebooted but continues to interact with all of these people who have, because that makes my brain want to explode.)
Possibly reading the event that rebooted the universe would explain this, but I kinda doubt it.

Date: 2012-10-02 10:28 pm (UTC)It sounds like D.C. may beat Marvel for confusing what with the disjunct between "rebooted" and "not rebooted," but my guess is the "relaunch" and "non-relaunch" comics will do some of the same things ... for example, X-Factor does not appear to give a shit about Marvel NOW and although it is shedding a few team members here and there who are going off to other titles for the most part it is mostly continuing to prance along as a wacky detective agency. But A v. X killed Avengers Academy completely? INCONSISTENT.

Date: 2012-10-02 10:36 pm (UTC)Occasionally, I feel like I should read AvX. And then, y'know, I don't. Because really, what? Dark Phoenix, what?
Consistency would be nice. Or, failing that, some sort of explanatory spreadsheet or something so that I could keep track of who is doing what.

Date: 2012-10-02 10:44 pm (UTC)But then Scott is Dark Phoenix, Mr. Sinister has twelve Madelyne Priors (???), Black Panther and Storm got divorced because he unilaterally divorced her as high priest of his own church ... and Namor and Piotr and Illyana may or may not be alive? UNCLEAR. Illyana's certainly gone off the deep end into TOTAL BATSHIT if she is alive.
And I'm a little confused as to when ... Iron Man is happening. In relation to Avengers and A v. X. Because how is Tony both bumming around Avengers Tower in a tank top and whining, and also held captive by the Mandarin and forced to call him master in YET ANOTHER episode of 'Matt Fraction writes inexplicable D/s about Tony Stark, this time with less tentacle porn and more semi-mind control'?

Date: 2012-10-02 10:56 pm (UTC)I always find it very difficult to tell when comics are happening in relation to each other. Generally, I assume that they are in slightly different universes, connected by explanatory editorial bubbles.
Also, I am not caught up on Iron Man right now, because I did this stupid thing where I thought, "I won't read the new issues until I've read all the ones on my computer, so the gap between won't be as large" and then started reading All The Flash V2 Ever. So mostly I am sitting here kinda going "Matt Fraction, what?" at my screen right now.

Date: 2012-10-02 11:09 pm (UTC)Tony does so. While kissing a tentacle.
Later in this story arc, Doc Ock puts the film of this on repeat and watches it over and over.
I can't even make this up.

Date: 2012-10-02 11:12 pm (UTC)Dear everyone,
It's cool if you want to write porn into your comics but, really, I'd like a warning.

Date: 2012-10-02 11:24 pm (UTC)I am much more used to the freaky-weird messed-upedness of my comics being something you sort of have to puzzle out between panels. We don't usually call attention to the weird fetishistic stuff like that.
