Things I have done today:
- Went to the Batman movie. Which I...liked? I guess. I mean, it was an enjoyable movie experience, it just didn't really feel like a Batman story to me, somehow. I'm not even sure if I can articulate what I felt was wrong with it. Part of it is definitely the fact that Bruce retired at the end of the movie, faked his own death, and ran off to Europe with Selina, which is pretty much counter to all my feelings about Batman. Bruce Wayne does not retire, come on. Bruce Wayne does not abandon Gotham to other people.
I loved Jim Gordon and Blake, Bane was vaguely interesting to me for the first time ever, and I liked Selina, though I've never been a Catwoman fan. And I am was glad that the kid turned out to be Talia because the idea that we had erased her in favor of a random son for Ra's al Ghul irritated the hell out of me. But I kinda would have like the movie better had it just been about those people. It was like Batman was...extraneous to the plot, somehow. I don't know. I enjoyed it but found it oddly unsatisfying.
(I am irritated by the fact that Blake's name turns out to be Robin, just as he's about to take up the cowl. That is stupid. Just give him an actual Robin name, for gods' sake - it's not like there aren't enough to choose from. Hell, call him Terry if you want and give the toon!verse fans a nod. Don't actually name him Robin.)
- Reread some Starman. OMG, you guys, Starman. I am full of so much ridiculous love and I kinda want to live in Opal City. The problem with rereading Starman, though, is that I don't actually have all of it. I got rid of my scans and I stopped buying the graphic novels when the omnibuses started coming out but I drifted away from comics in the middle and thus didn't buy all of the omnibuses. Now I am kinda stupid tempted to buy all the ones I don't have at once, which I really don't need to do. Maybe I will just buy one of them...

I did think the Omnibuses were worth it because they added in a bunch of extra stuff where it belonged chronologically. (In fact, when I got rid of most of my books before moving, those were some of the very few books I kept.)
Oh, did you know there's currently a 12-issue Shade series that Robinson's doing?

Date: 2012-07-23 02:19 am (UTC)Starman is just amazingly good. I forget how awesome it is when I'm not reading it and then I reread and spend several days wanted to shove it into the hands of everyone I meet and yell "Read this, it is amazing!" I don't do that, but it's sort of tempting.
I had heard about the Shade miniseries but haven't read any of it. I shall have to remedy that somehow.
