My boss keeps trying to buy me tea.

Which, okay, is nice of her. But a) I bring my own everyday, b) I don't like to buy tea from coffee places because it's always stupid hot and I have to add ludicrous numbers of sugar packets (which I don't currently have), and c) no means no. But she is big into buying drinks for people and today brought my coworker a drink and just included a cup of tea for me without asking. Because, if she had asked, I would have said no. Like I have every other time she's asked me.

So now I have this ridiculously hot beverage that's not going to be anywhere near sweet enough (hours from now, when I can drink the damned thing) which I don't even want because I brought my own tea (which is properly sweetened and at a drinkable temperature).

It's sweet of her to want to do nice things for me, yes. I just wish that she would try to do nice things that I actually want, rather than nice things that are awkward and unpleasant and leaving me drinking things that don't taste good.

Maybe we have sugar in the office somewhere.

With something like that, the best option is usually to find something you *do* want, or are willing to accept, that she can bring you in place of tea. Then just let her know "I don't want tea, but I do like the biscotti they sell."

Is there another drink or item that you can substitute for the tea? If you really want it to potentially stop, make it an expensive one so that she has to think about the expense of getting you a drink. Or as [personal profile] james said above, substitute something you do like that you can have her get.

A possibility for the "find something you do like" suggestion -- hot chocolate. If nothing else, it'll almost certainly be sweet enough. :0)
