Apr. 12th, 2010 09:14 amSo, the shawl I've been working on for the last few weeks, which was made with absolutely beautiful yarn and was soft and light and had a lovely stitch pattern to it, is finished. And much too small - or too shallow, I guess, since it's long enough across the shoulders but not long enough down the back. It is not anything like what the pattern led me to believe it would be, despite the fact that I haven't made any mistakes or used the wrong hook size or got the gauge wrong. I am terribly disappointed and a little pissed off. I feel like I've wasted two weeks and a whole skein of yarn that was so pretty I was saving it for something special. I kinda want to cry.
Fortunately, Mom liked the finished product as much as I disliked it, so I have given it to her. So that's something, at least.
I have ordered more of the yarn to replace the skein I wasted (it's being discontinued by the manufacturer, so I was lucky to catch it before it was all gone). And now I am looking for another shawl pattern that will end up being closer to what I actually want.
