We opened 6 minutes ago. I am already done for the day.

Today is cash-turn-in day and there were like 6 different freaky-weird things that were wrong with the money drawer, none of which I had been involved in causing, but all of which I had to investigate and fix. (OMG, if a patron pays $.70 for copies and you end up having to refund them $.30, don't write that you refunded $.70! This seems entirely obvious to me. Perhaps it is not to other people.)

Also, I had this conversation with the first patron through the door:

Patron: ::brings season 2 of Angel to the counter:: Do you have the first season of this?

Me: Sure, can I put that on hold for you?

Patron: Yeah. This looks like it would require knowing the backstory.

Me: Probably, yes. Have you watched Buffy the Vampire Slayer? Because this is a spin-off. If you're interested in this, you might want to watch Buffy too.

Patron: No, I feel like that would have too many vampires.

Me: ...the main character on Angel is a vampire. I mean, he's a good vampire but still. Vampire.

Patron: Oh.

Me: I guess you don't want season one?

I really want to go home and knit, you guys. I could work on my sweater, that I dug out of the knitting basket where it has languished since last winter. But no, I am at work, explaining that Angel is a vampire.

At least I have good tea.
darchildre: herbert is breaking his pencils because you are so dumb. text: "you said *what* now?" (herbert is smarter than you)

Scene from the library:

Patron, seated at the computer: Can I ask you a question?

I walk over and look at the screen. She has the browser open to the library catalog and has typed "hotmail.com" into the catalog search.

Patron: Why won't this take me to my email?

Two minutes after this, I had one of those patrons who deliberately stands at the desk that I am not working at, card in hand, saying nothing, until I notice they are there and walk over to them to check them out at a computer that I am not logged on to.

I am going to go hide in a corner, okay?
