Well, my kindle is broken. The screen is all dark and unreadable and I had to call customer service about it.

Good things: they are going to send me a new one, even though my kindle is a few years old and out of warranty. (I do have to pay for it, but not as much as for a new kindle.) Also, the vast majority of the fanfic I had on my kindle is still in kindle-readable files on my computer, to be transferred back when the new one arrives.

Bad things: I'm currently in that place where the only thing I want to read is fanfic, which requires the kindle when I am at work. So now I have to find a book to read and nothing feels properly satisfying at the moment.

Still, that is a small bad thing. And the phone call wasn't too painful - I feel like I'm getting a little better about phone calls lately. There's still a few moments of paralyzing anxiety beforehand and being on hold makes it worse because it gives me time to think, but about 75% of the time, I actually end up making the phone call, which is something.

And that is my morning so far.

Ways in which today has sucked:

- My kindle broke - discussed in earlier post.

- It was incredibly humid and my sandals stuck to my feet and rubbed weirdly all day, which was painful. And my bandaids were in my other bag.

- I had to clean up a rather large and disgusting mess in the bathroom of the children's library today. Fortunately, we had gloves. However, I have always considered that one of the major advantages of being both asexual and a person who has chosen not to have children is not having to deal with the secretions or excretions of other human beings and I would really appreciate it if the universe could continue to play along with that idea.

- I was supposed to have a meeting Wednesday morning for two hours. I had already scheduled flex time for that meeting* and taken some of it. The meeting has been cancelled. Which will mean that I will either have to make up the time I took off at some other point in the coming week or take it out of my vacation. Grar.

- My dinner was completely unsatisfying and sad.

- My dog has eaten a wooden spoon. Fortunately, he seems to be all right. Still - worrying.

I am declaring today over. I am going to eat ice cream and watch tv and knit and, gods help me, if anything goes wrong with that, I may have to burn something down.

*We don't get paid for meetings or trainings. So, if we have one, we have to take that amount of time off somewhere else within the same pay period of two weeks. If you know you have a meeting scheduled late in the pay period, you might take that time off the week before. Which is unhelpful when the meeting no longer exists.
