Dec. 3rd, 2009 12:51 pmIn which today is not my favorite work day ever:
So, I nearly always get to work early, because I'm like that. On Thursday, that generally means I am the first one in.
And that was sort of the case today, in that none of the other library staff were here. The doors were wide open, however, and the library was full of guys from the Facilities department and the County. Doing...something. I don't know what. I'm still not entirely sure. What I am sure of is that they had taken all the cds and dvds off of their respective shelves, piled them on carts, and moved the shelves out of position. And that they were leaving. With said cds and dvds still off their shelves and said shelves still out of position. "We have to leave now," they said. "We'll be back to finish tomorrow."
Now, that's frustrating enough by itself. What makes it worse is that I had had no warning that they would even be here. No one bothered to tell me. No one bothered to put it on the calendar so that I could figure out what the hell was going on. No, I was just left out of the loop, so that I could come in this morning with everything higgledy-piggledy and fix everything myself.
And then, when my coworkers finally did come in, the first thing they said was to complain about the cold in the building. Yeah, it's cold because I just got here to turn the heat on 10 minutes ago and, y'know what, I've been a little busy trying to get the library back into vaguely workable shape so that I can do all the other things I have to do before we open, while you sit around and chatter.
Ahem.
And now to attempt to be personable and not kill anyone before we close.
