OMG, today is incredibly busy. Seriously, people, just because we were closed for Labor Day does not mean we will never open again. You will be able to check out books tomorrow, I promise.

Also, someone just called us and was so freaking loud that I ended up literally holding the phone a foot away from my ear. My ear still hurts, it was so loud.

And this evening, apparently, the IT people are taking our circulation software down to do...something to it, I don't know what, it will probably cause the damned thing to not function for the rest of the week. We have a backup thing but it basically only allows check-outs and nothing else so this evening is going to be fun.

I'm going to go curl up in a corner and hide now.

Okay, see the thing is that when you come in to make a new card and I go through the whole process till the end where I hit the "Check for Duplicates" button and then, y'know, a duplicate name comes up with the same street address and phone number and birthdate and email address and $219 in fines, I am pretty much not going to believe you when you tell me that it's not your card and you've never had a card before.

I'm just sayin'.

I am not allowed to kill everyone. I am not allowed to kill everyone. I am not allowed to kill everyone.

I am not allowed to kill the IT people who decided to take our system down while we were still open. I am not allowed to kill coworker 1 who didn't tell coworker 2 that we'd have to do something about it. I am not allowed to kill coworker 2 for figuring that all of the problems our patrons are having with the public computers are due to system being down, despite the fact that if she'd listened for 30 seconds it would have been obvious that that was in no way the case. I am not allowed to kill those same patrons for not being able to figure out how to use frelling Facebook. I am not allowed to kill all of the other patrons who do not understand that yes, our system is down, I cannot do anything but check out books and I can only do that if you actually have your card with you.

In an hour and a half, I get to go home. I am going to make tea and hide in my room and maybe I will watch something horrifically violent and feel better. Maybe it will be Re-Animator. That generally works.

In the mean time, I am just going to keep reminding myself that killing people really is a bad idea.
