Having finished The Goblin Emperor*, I am now reading The Bone Doll's Twin. (For which this post will contain some mild spoilers.) I read this one and the second in the trilogy, but not the third, as it hadn't come out yet, when I was in college and I remembered a) that it was about a girl being magically raised as a boy and b) that I had really enjoyed it.

What I did not remember was the deeply creepy dead baby magic. So that's awesome. (I realize that sounds sarcastic. I am completely sincere - I am totally here for creepy dead baby magic.)

I also seem to recall reading this book and Iain Banks' The Wasp Factory in pretty quick succession, though I can't remember if I did that on purpose. That must have been a fun couple weeks of creepy genderfuckery. Maybe I should reread that as well.

*Which I loved so much, OMG. I did not want that book to end.

yaaaay. I'm glad you liked The Goblin Emperor.

Oooh. I'm kinda glad I didn't really get sucked in to The Bone Doll's Twin, then. XD That doesn't sound like it's my cup of tea.

Yeah. That's really the best way to describe it. I have books I'll revisit like once a decade or something (or when the newest installment of the series comes out), but I can easily see me revisiting The Goblin Emperor often. And I'm still pouting because there aren't any more books coming in that world.

(As an aside, I've heard that the author's books under her own name -- Sarah Monette -- are really rapey. Like to the point where my friend who reads literally hundreds of books a year hasn't finished the first one. I thought I'd give a heads up in case you wanted to poke at her other books.)

Someday I should acquire The Bone Doll's Twin and the sequels and reread them, because it's been a long time since I read them, and I remember really liking them. But I think I also read them quite far apart, because the third, at least, wasn't out when I read the first one(s).
