Today in the library:

Older Patron: Where's your self-checkout machine?

Me: It's right over there. ::points::

Older Patron: I'm going to let you check me out, because I want you to keep your job.

Me: Well, I am more than happy to do that for you!

Older Patron: I don't like automation. I learned that from my father. Back in the day, he used to not put his electric bill payment in the mail and made the guy come out and collect it, so that the guy would have a job.

Me: ...thank you for your concern.

Older Patron: ::leaves::

Me: So your father kept people employed by being as irritating as possible?

And then some. He might think it's a good thing, but I wonder if he would laugh so much when his payment was late and his electricity went dark...
