Dec. 18th, 2010 04:07 pmToday in Things I Have Ranted About Before Yet Still Am Not Over:
Look. You knew you were coming to the library, because at this time of day on a Saturday, there is no other conceivable reason to enter the Kingston community center. You knew you were going to check out books, because you had apparently come here expressly to pick up holds. You know that I'm going to ask for your card when you check out, because you come in here all the freaking time.
So why, in the name of all that is holy, would you leave your card in your car? And okay, I know that's a little thing but I just do not understand it in the slightest and it bugs the hell out of me. It does not compute. Why would you do that?
And why would you tell me you'd done that? Lie to me, please. Tell me you left it at home, tell me it's on your other keys, tell me you beamed it to Mars. Saying, "I left it in my car," is ridiculous and insulting. "I left it in my car," says "I have chosen to inconvenience you for no reason whatever, except that I didn't want to prepare in the slightest way for the transaction I came into the building to perform." Don't tell me that.
You brought the card to the library! It is in your car! How hard is it to put it in your frelling pocket and bring it inside?
