Nov. 29th, 2010 10:24 pmThank you, people who answered my question earlier re: Dona Nobis Pacem. At least now I have an idea how surprised I should be when people don't know that song. 8)
And now, transitioning into another religion entirely, it is the end of November. Which means that it is time to start getting ready for Yule! Hooray! This evening, I have been decorating my altar. I have sadly neglected it for the past few months, but Yule is Important, and so there have been decorations.

Tiny Freyr and Freyja! They are a little ridiculous and I made them out of Crayola air-dry clay, but I am fond of them. And I am kind of stupidly proud of Freyja's tiny necklace.
Later, it may get more elaborate, but this is good for now.
Also! In the spirit of not neglecting things and trying to be more connected to the gods in the season of Yule, I am trying to get back to doing regular rune work - doing my stadha, meditating, etc. In that vein (and inspired by
recessional's monthly tarot draws), I would like to offer a three-rune reading to anyone who might be interested.
So, you could ask a question or just ask for an open-ended reading. I would then draw three runes for you and attempt to interpret them to answer your question or give you some sort of divinatory insight. I can't promise to be any good at it, but it could be fun to try.
I work with the Elder Futhark. My interpretations of the runes are informed by Edred Thorson, Diana Paxson, and the interpretation of the rune poem found in Stephen Grundy's Rhinegold. I will also admit to my own UPG (of course). You need not have any idea what I'm talking about in this paragraph to ask for a reading. 8)
Any takers?

Date: 2010-11-30 08:09 am (UTC)I'd be up for a reading on the general subject of work and school, if that's not too vague for you?

Date: 2010-11-30 04:22 pm (UTC)Your runes are ingwaz, fehu, and laguz.
Ingwaz is a seed, the beginning of something new. Fehu is heavily associated with Freyr and Freyja, and can indicate prosperity, creativity, or any sort of fertility. Laguz is water, and can refer to something hidden that will eventually come to the surface.
So I would read this as something good beginning for you, something that's beginning now that you can't see yet, but will eventually make itself known. Fehu, with its associations with money and prosperity, makes me think that this new thing probably involves your job, but it may also indicate some other creative endeavor.
I hope that's helpful.
Edited for grammar.

Date: 2010-11-30 04:35 pm (UTC)Dagaz is day - I associate it with dawning, and with the winter solstice. Eihwaz is Yggdrasil, the world-tree. It can indicate a change of state, possibly a reversal of fortunes. Hagalaz means hail, and can indicate disruption and great change.
So, mostly what I'm reading here is that something big is soon to change for you. Hagalaz in a reading is often a little bit worrisome, as hail can be a destructive force. But on the other side of the reading, we have dagaz, which is pretty much always a good sign. These two balance themselves across eihwaz, leaving what seems to me to be a generally neutral outcome.
So there's gonna be a whole lotta shakin' goin' on, but the good and the bad of it will equal out and you'll come out okay. Hope that helps.

Date: 2010-11-30 04:43 pm (UTC)Perthro is a rune of chance. It indicates that one may have to take a gamble and that there is a chance of winning big or losing everything. Tiwaz is Tyr's rune and indicates a need for courage and determination. Sowilo is the rune of the sun and means strength, energy, luck, and success.
So I would read this as indicating that something in your job hunt is going to require you to take some kind of a chance, to make some kind of move that seems risky, probably one that will require you to be brave or to show especial determination. But sowilo is, above all other meanings, the rune that indicates victory and success, so the chance you take will pay off.

Date: 2010-11-30 04:54 pm (UTC)Hagalaz is hail. It generally indicates change, sometimes destructive or disruptive change. Kenaz means torch, and indicates creative energy or energy that is channeled for a purpose. It can also mean mismanaged energy that leads to burnout. Thurisaz means thorn, and is associated both with Thor and with the jotnar who are his opponents. It indicates a need for caution.
I would read this as indicating some sort of change that will lead to an expenditure of energy on your part. You'll need to be careful to avoid becoming burnt out or unhealthy. Thurisaz indicates that you should assess all your options before making any decisions to deal with the situation. Because of its association with Thor (who is the friend of humankind), it also suggests that it's not a situation that you want to deal with on your own. You may want to ask for help in deal with it.

Date: 2010-11-30 08:33 pm (UTC)I'm waffling on whether to ask about specifics or just generally, because if I ask about the specifics, then the results may not be good, but if I ask generally, I may not get what I really wanted...
..eh. The general reading will likely pick up on the big specific thing as part of my life. So one general reading of three, please, and may they offer, if not good things, hope that the bad things will cease.

Date: 2010-12-01 05:35 am (UTC)Perthro is a rune of chance. It indicates a gamble, or a risk. Berkano is heavily associated with birthing, both literally and figuratively. Elhaz indicates protection, a benevolent influence acting on your behalf.
So I would read this as indicating that something in your situation is going to require you to take a risk and that that risk will lead to the birth of something new. This could be a wholly new thing, or the fruition of something that's been in the works for some time. (Birthing is funny like that.) Whatever the new thing is, though, there is something or someone looking out for you and your interests.
I hope that's helpful.
