darchildre: cooper and truman looking interested and somewhat skeptical (cooper and truman)

Two things that happened at the library today:

- So, we have this display in the children's library. It's a bulletin board of Charlotte's Web, with a big plastic spiderweb in front of it. On the spiderweb is a venerable old plastic spider. Once upon a time, if you squeezed the abdomen of this spider he would light up - there was some sort of device inside, suspended in some kind of fluid. Today, as I passed the display, I squeezed the spider. And it dripped all over my hand. It was all terribly Lovecraftian - I'm walking along, minding my own business, and then I'm suddenly covered in unnameable ichor.

I had never spoken the sentence "The spider is leaking" before. I hope to never have occasion to speak it again.

- Later, my coworker was feeding the fish. We feed them these pellets of brine shrimp that are kept in the freezer upstairs. The pellets are transported downstairs in a tiny glass coffee cup that is used for no other purpose. My coworker had washed out the cup last night and left it on the drying rack, but this morning, it had coffee dregs in it.

And that is terribly gross for the person who used it but I will admit that I was incredibly hard pressed not to yell "There was a fish in the percolater!" I was restrained only by the fact that my coworker does not seem at all the kind of person who would have watched Twin Peaks and she already spends a good deal of time looking at me like I'm nuts. Some things are simply not worth it.
