Today, la familia and I went to see Inception. Here is my reaction, wholly non-spoilery:
OMG, I want all of their clothes. Especially Arthur's (oh, his waistcoats!), but most everyone's were lovely.
Also, I think I'd like to see it again.

Date: 2010-07-27 04:02 pm (UTC)I need to see it again, too, actually. The clothes really are lovely... and yes, Arthur is definitely the best dressed man in the entire film... and oh, my... ::laughter::

Date: 2010-07-29 03:19 am (UTC)Let me tell you some things about the Ways of My People:
1) We are not here to make sense. We are here for the pretty.* You give us a source with two pretty men and we'll write (or, in my case, read) slash about them.** It doesn't actually matter if they've met in canon, let alone interacted meaningfully. I mean, that's a bonus, and the vast majority of fic is written about people who have actual relationships of some sort, but it's not compulsory. If they're pretty enough, we'll write them having sex anyway. The fandom won't last as long that way but hell, this fandom won't last long anyway. Movie fandoms have finite canon and thus tend to fizzle out fairly quickly. May as well enjoy the pretty while we have it.
2) If you're lucky enough to have source material in which one of your pretty men calls the other one "darling" and teases in a way that can be very easily interpreted as the kind of pigtail-pulling flirting that small boys indulge in, well. I came out of the film knowing that I'd find fic, if I wanted. My statement that it's all based on one line is something of an exaggeration for comedic effect. (I also figured on Cobb/Arthur, Cobb/Ariadne, and Arthur/Ariadne, because I know how fandom works. The apparently fascination with Robert Fischer surprised me slightly, but I should have guessed it because hell, Cillian Murphy.)
3) As for who is writing it, well, most of my investigation into the subject has been limited to the kink meme and whatever I find floating around my flist. (Warnings re: the kink meme - 'ware occasional bad writing and OOC-ness, prompts (and fills) that may require brain bleach, and the likelihood of losing one's self in there for days. The kink meme is mostly porn but some of it is actually good and a lot of it is fun.)
*Which is not to say that fandom doesn't occasionally produce works of staggering beauty, full of wonderful plots and characterization and interesting things to say. But we do it because of the shiny, I think.
**Most of the time. Unless you're in Farscape fandom, which apparently latched onto the het with a deathgrip and wouldn't let go. I still don't understand the general lack of slash in that fandom.
