Also! A few days ago, we found out that Katie's boyfriend Eddy had never heard Les Miz and in fact had no idea what the storyline is. Of course, he could not be allowed to remain a family adjunct in such a condition, so we took it upon ourselves to educate him. Since the 10th anniversary In Concert dvd is, to my knowledge, the only videorecording of the show that's available, we got that from the library and made him watch it last night. He enjoyed it, so he is allowed to stay.
Man, that is still the best musical ever. I had forgotten how much I loved it. So now I want to try to read the book again. I read an abridged version as a child and several years ago tried to read the whole thing but got stuck at the damned convent that Cosette grows up in and gave up. (Dear Victor Hugo, I do not care about the damned convent, where is the plot?) But this time, I will know that the convent is coming and be able to skim.
So I am downloading it from Project Gutenberg and putting it on my kindle. (I am not allowing myself to buy any new books or acquire any from paperbackswap for a month or until the new bookshelf is acquired, whichever comes first. And I have too many library books.) Even though I know the first fifty pages are about the bishop who does exactly one important thing (though, to be fair, it is extremely important), I am excited. This time, I am totally going to finish it.

Date: 2010-05-24 06:19 pm (UTC)I took the other half to see it in January when it toured - he'd been resisting for years and years - and I was glad to say he loved it. Although he keeps getting 'Lovely Ladies' in my head every since seeing it.
