And now we're having a conversation about what is the definition of a cobbler. Which is always an interesting subject, because the definition of "cobbler" is so tied to family history and regional whatsit.
Like, my boss and one of my coworkers, when asked to describe a cobbler, end up describing something that I would characterize as a crisp, what with the struesel topping and all. The other coworker defined it as a pie without a top crust. I figure that cobbler is one of those things like meatloaf - meatloaf is properly made the way your mom (or applicable cooking relative) made it and other ways of constructing meatloaf are kinda wrong.
My mom makes cobbler in a way that I never seem to find in cookbooks. She calls it a "mountain pie" sometimes - it has no streusel, nor does it do that thing where you cover the fruit with biscuits. Alas, if I google "mountain pie" I get nothing that look anything like my mother's cobbler.
