I finally heard back from the dentist (after emailing them again) and now I am experiencing some whiplash:

Me: Hello, I would still like a dental appointment.

Them: Oh, sorry! We lost your email - thanks for following up. We can make you an appointment for September 27th.

Me: Okay, cool, I'll put that on my calendar. (Internally: that's...longer than I wanted to wait, but at least it's something and I'll have months to get over my anxiety about this appointment. Or at least put if off till then.)

Them: Actually, do you want to come in next week? We have an opening for next week, suddenly.

Me: Great! (Internally: AAAAAH! All of the anxiety right now I guess!)

Them: And also we need your phone number.

Fortunately, they only needed my phone number to text me a link to the patient portal. I don't understand why that couldn't be an email, but at least they didn't actually call me.

I am on vacation next week, so at least I don't have to arrange time off from work and getting it over with really is the best thing. It's just now I'm going to be a little off for a few hours.

Oof, I am familiar the trade off of deferring anxiety for later vs anxiety right now (but then at least it's over) and both suck. I can never decide which is worse. I hope it goes as well as possible, and your anxiety doesn't cause you too much trouble.

Oof. That's always fun, even if on the other side of it, it's often nice to not have the anticipation anxiety any more.
