May. 26th, 2022 09:34 amThings:
- The blackout curtains are helping a lot. It's amazing how much difference it makes to simply be able to wake up in a dark room, rather than one that's already completely full of sunshine before 6 am. Seriously life-altering.
- After about a year of slow tapering, I have now gotten my palate to the point that it will happily accept, if not prefer, black tea with half the amount of sugar that I think of as "standard". (And which for other people would be "a lot" or possibly "too much".) I still drink my breakfast tea fully sweetened, because it's breakfast and that's not a time for any sort of deviation from years-long routine, but tea for the rest of the day is half sweet and I don't get to the afternoon feeling like I've had too many sugary drinks. So that's good.
- I have started playing Disco Elysium and y'know the thing where you get 10 minutes into a piece of media and realize, "Oh, okay - this is going to colonize my entire brain for the next month or so"? Yeah, that. I want to read an entire encyclopedia and in-depth history text on this setting. I need to know everything but also I am entirely unspoiled - please tell me nothing, because I want to discover for myself. (I also want to read fanfiction but am restraining myself in order to avoid spoilers.)
- Every conversation I have with our custodian is somehow the most confusing conversation I've ever had. He's a very nice dude but I think our brains are just entirely incompatible. Today, the first thing he said to me was "Hey, where's your nose?!", loudly, from across a room. I pointed to my nose, completely taken aback, and he said, "No, your clown nose," and then told me he'd left some in the break room because it was "clown nose day". I told him that I didn't know it was clown nose day but thank you, and that it was also Dracula day, so happy Dracula day, and then the conversation ended and we both walked away. It is Red Nose Day, I guess? A) I didn't realize that had spread to the US and b) what an extremely weird way to tell someone about it.

Date: 2022-05-27 05:32 am (UTC)We have external blinds and the thing I love the most about them -- other than dark mornings -- is being able to close them at night in summer and decide this is enough of a day, it's dark-time now. Seriously, sometimes I need -- and truly enjoy -- that extra sleep.
