So, yesterday, the CDC announced that you don't need to wear a mask indoors if you're vaccinated. Okay, that's a thing.

The library can't change our policy until leadership and the board have a vote on it - a process that will take a couple days. Until that happens, our policy is still to require mask wearing from everyone. But! My library is inside another building - a community center - that's an independent entity with its own rules and policies. And they just put a big sign in their lobby saying that, as long as you tell them you're vaccinated, you don't have to wear a mask in the community center.

I am not looking forward to spending several days telling people that yes, I know what the CDC said, I know what the governor said, I know what the community center said, but you still have to wear a mask in the library.

I love how everyone is acting like everyone will be honest about being vaccinated.

God, right? The community center has everyone sign in when they come in the building and now the sign-in process is going to involve a verbal check of their vaccination status and a little checkbox on the form next to "I can prove I've been vaccinated." My supervisor told me that and all I could think was "oh, okay, so you're just going to make them lie twice - that's definitely going to help."

The laugh-so-I-don't-cry silver lining is that I guess we'll have fewer patrons getting aggressive about us requiring them to wear masks once our procedure changes. They can just calmly lie to us instead.

That's going to be so much fun times, and I do not envy you any bit of it, because I might end up being in the same boat of having an organization that says "no, you must still mask" in a space that says "masks, what masks?"

Fortunately, this morning has been super slow, so we haven't had any problems so far but I am braced.

Ugh. That sounds like a headache, to say the least.

If I tilt my head, I can kinda see it as being meant as an incentive for reluctant folks to get vaccinated, but that requires you to believe that most people won't just lie if it's easier for them for whatever reason. Which is an absurdly naïve belief for anyone in the CDC to hold.
