For the past few weeks, my brain has been doing a thing where it bounces hard off anything I try to watch or listen to that has a narrative. So no tv, no podcasts - books are fine sometimes but mostly not. The only narrative I have been permitted has been my own various solo rpgs and short fanfic.
My brain has also bounced hard off the idea of doing any sort of yarn craft, so no knitting or spinning for me right now. That's been okay, because I mostly do yarn crafts while watching tv or listening to podcasts, so if I can't do the one I probably wouldn't do the other anyway.
But last night, my brain suddenly went, "Critical Role! We should catch up on Critical Role - that is all I want to do in the world." Which is great! Except that the idea of doing yarn crafts during it was still completely untenable and none of the fidget toys I pulled out of my stash were providing sufficient/the right kind of stimulation.
So I cast around wildly for something I could do while watching/mostly listening to a D&D show that required a little focus but not too much focus and eventually settled on a coloring book and colored pencils. Which turned out to be perfect, except that the coloring book I have is nearly full.
And that is why I may have gone on the Dover Publishing website and ordered...let us say, a possibly absurd number of new coloring books. They are mostly of dinosaurs, trains, and cowboys because I am, at heart, apparently a 6 year old boy. The book I have will tide me over till they arrive but I am ridiculously excited about them.
