I am having one of those periods where food seems entirely unappealing in all ways, which has led to me reviving my recipe for The Most Boring Smoothie Ever. Because sometimes, you don't want "flavors"* - you just want something that meets your basic nutritional needs and requires nothing from you.
(Every time I make one of these, my mom suggests other things I could add to it to jazz it up because Mom has not grasped the point of the Extremely Boring Smoothie.)
Here is the recipe, which I am writing down so that I don't have to recreate it the next time food seems completely unpalatable and so that anyone who also sometimes hates things having a taste can enjoy:
1/2 cup oats
1/2-3/4 cup milk (or water)
1/2 cup plain yogurt
1-2 tbsp nut butter (I prefer almond butter, but usually only have peanut butter)
1-2 tbsp honey
pinch of salt
Optional ingredients:
a handful of baby spinach
1/8 tsp vanilla extract
sprinkle of cinnamon
Put the oats in a blender and grind them up small. Then add everything else. Blend it together. Pour into a glass and drink it, ideally with a straw, so that it can almost entirely bypass your tongue. For me, this works as a fairly filling lunch.
*I mean, obviously, the smoothie tastes like something. It just tastes like things that are, to me, bland and unoffensive.
