Every once in a while, I get a library patron who comes up to the desk, looks at me apologetically, and then says something self-deprecating about "getting shamefully into ebooks". I always want to take them solidly by the shoulders, shake them slightly and tell them:

1) Oh my god, we don't care! You read a book! I don't care if it was made of paper or on an electronic screen or an audiobook or if it was assembled for you by tiny spiders on yards of tapestry webbing - it is still a book. No one at the library is even the slightest bit interested in what format you get your books in. We are also entirely uninterested in shaming you about any of it.

1.5) We also fundamentally don't care what you're reading. That's your business - it's none of ours.

2) I personally have not read a physical made-of-paper book in at least 6 months. That is an entirely neutral fact - I am neither proud or ashamed.

3) ...do you need more? Because the library can totally hook you up and our are free.

The only reason we care about format is for the budget reasons and so we can yell at publishers that they are continuing to be shitheads about their "licensing" schemes.

And yes, also, did we mention that library books are free?

Now that I live further away from the nearest physical library, I love their big ebook collection even more :)
