Today's social anxiety mood is "I would like to teach myself to play both the harmonica and the recorder but I cannot actually bear to have anyone hear me practice."

I mean, to be honest, I don't really want to know that anyone can hear me play at all - all of my non-singing musical urges are solely based around wanting to produce music for my own enjoyment - but I can't progress to that anxiety until I get past the first one.

It is a trouble.

Too bad they don't make electric harmonica, which like the electric guitar you can plug directly into your headphones and no one else can hear a thing. (I think it's the guitar? maybe keyboard?)

You can make an instant mute for a recorder with a folded bit of paper in the horizonal hole.

I was going to suggest mutes and their electronic versions, of they exist, but that's often a pretty big outlay.
