Okay, so, Persephone is not so much one of my gods (I am not Hellenic at all, really) but sometimes you need flowers and springtime and renewal.

Keywords: all the little angels rise up high
This icon commemorates the People's Republic of Treacle Mine Road and the Glorious Revolution of May 25th, which was fought for Truth, Justice, Freedom, Reasonably Priced Love, and a Hardboiled Egg. The text refers to a song they sang; the lilac served as their badge. If you are going to read the Watch novels (which are part of Terry Pratchett's Discworld series), Night Watch is not the right place to start - try Guards! Guards! instead - but it is the one I reread every May.

Keywords: remember the face of your father
Look, I watched Firefly in college at a time when I was reading Stephen King's Dark Tower series a lot and there was something in Mal Reynolds (and River Tam) that made me look at them and think, "Hile, Gunslinger, I see you very well." I made a lot of Dark Tower/Firefly icons at that time - this is the one that stuck around.

Date: 2019-02-07 04:00 pm (UTC)I have read a little of Terry Pratchett's diskworld stuff, but not very much. I should correct that, as I remember really enjoying what I have read.
I love the Mal/Dark Tower crossover pic (though I haven't read the books.) Given the words, I can totally see this. :) Thanks!

Date: 2019-02-07 04:12 pm (UTC)Discworld is great (though one should skip the first couple books). I love the Watch novels best but for you, I'd recommend the Witch books, starting with Wyrd Sisters.
The Dark Tower is not for everyone but it remains one of my favorite stories. If you enjoy dark fantasy mixed with weird westerns, maybe give it a try. (Do not watch the movie, it was a bitter disappointment.)

Date: 2019-02-07 04:42 pm (UTC)Too late, I have already seen the movie! Knowing nothing about the books before heading in to watch it does not help it, because it is just poor film making. It didn't turn me off the idea of possibly trying to read the books, however, so perhaps I should look into them.

Date: 2019-02-07 05:51 pm (UTC)It has been, like, two years since that movie came out and I am still so angry and disappointed about it! It could have been so good! But no, it was dreadful. The setting in the books is so much stranger and richer than the movie made it appear and I'm so mad at how badly the film interpreted the characters. (Being who I am, I am most upset at the mess they made of the Man in Black, but everyone got fucked over in that movie.)
If you do decide to read them, I will warn you that the first book - The Gunslinger - is pretty damn bleak and very weird. I do not warn you because that makes the book bad - I love The Gunslinger - but because it turns a lot of people off the series who might otherwise enjoy it. If you hate it, maybe still try The Drawing of the Three, which is book 2. A lot of Dark Tower fans like that one much better and recommend skimming The Gunslinger or even just skipping it until after you've read book 2 and decided you like the characters and setting.
