Jul. 6th, 2019 09:39 amI bought a couple medieval-style spindle sticks a month or so ago*. They're fun to spin with and I like the fact that I can just pop the whorl off when the stick is full and start spinning on another stick before I have to ply anything or wind the yarn off, but I think my favorite thing about them is the way the cop** looks like a wee yarn cocoon.
( See? )
*Because the thing about spindles is that once you have bought one kind, you realize that there are so many other beautiful spindles out there in the world and you just want to try all of them and also all of them are so pleasant to touch.
**I have absolutely no evidence for this, but I like to think that the word 'cop' meaning yarn spun on a spindle and the word 'coppe' meaning spider which survives in the word 'cobweb' are related. So perhaps it is less a cocoon and more an egg sac.
