Today in Things I Have Done and Put on the Internet That No One Ever Asked For! In my last post, I mentioned that I was translating Hamilton lyrics into senesh. I did Wait For It, it took a really long time, and I'm pretty proud of it, so I'm posting it here. Get excited!

Also, when I've put up translations in the past, I've changed the transliteration a little when posting to be less confusing. It would take me a long time to do that, so I'm not going to. I will, instead, explain what I'm using certain symbols to mean before we start. (I realize that the sound I'm using these symbols for are not necessarily the sounds they make in other, more legit situations. But they were available on the 'insert symbol' menu, so that's what I've got.

ê = the vowel sound in "neigh"
ă = the vowel sound in "cow"
ī = the vowel sound in "hit"
ū = if you shape your lips like an "oo" but say "ee", it's this sound
ħ = this is a labial fricative. It's between an h and an f - if you try to make an h sound using only your lips, that would be about right. (If you can't do it, that's okay. I have a hard time with it too. We are none of us seneshi, and that sound doesn't exist in English.)
ŋ = the ng sound
ð = a voiceless th
j = always pronounced as a y sound

I am also not pasting in the original lyrics. Either you are also the trash of the thing and already know them, or you should go find the song and listen to it instead of reading this post. It is better than this post - go now.

And now, my ridiculous translation:

And a translation back into English, because that's fun:

Theodosia writes a letter to me every day. I share her pillows while her husband is away. He fights for the British in Georgia. He tries to force good behavior from the colonies. Well, I permit him to keep all of Georgia, but Theodosia is mine.

Love discriminates not between the sinners and the saved. It takes and it takes and it takes, and we still continue loving. We laugh and we cry and we break and we cause our mistakes. And if a reason exists why I am with her when so many have tried, I am willing to wait for it.

My maternal grandfather was a priest who preached about the hells, but wisdom exists that is not found in the sermons of priests. My mother was a genius, my father was a person of great honor. When they died, they left behind no instructions, only a legacy I must protect.

Death discriminates not between the sinners and the saved. It takes and it takes and it takes, and we still continue living. We rise and we fall and we break and we cause our mistakes. And if a reason exists why I still live when everyone who loves me has died, I am willing to wait for it.

I am the only thing in life I am able to control. I am inimitable, I am an original. I lag not, nor am I tardy. I am not the standing stone, I wait as a hunter.

Hamilton walks forever into the wind. He desires to prove his worth. What does he lose by trying? Hamilton travels with relentless speed; he uses every moment. How does it feel to wear his name?

Hamilton never hesitates. He exhibits restraint not. He takes and he takes and he takes and he still continues to win. He changes the games, plays and enlarges his wager, and if a reason exists why he appears to thrive when so few survive then assuredly I am willing to wait for it. I am willing to wait for it.

Life discriminates not between the sinners and the saved. It takes and it takes and it takes, and we still continue living. We rise and we fall and we break and we cause our mistakes. And if a reason exists why I still live when everyone who loves me has died, I am willing -

to wait for it.

Also, if you want, you can listen to me reading it, because of course I recorded the damned thing. It's a bit stumbly, because I'm not, y'know, a native senesh speaker.

I now have a lot of Thoughts about Aaron Burr's use of evidentials, but that is even more ridiculous than the rest of the post, so I think it will stay inside my head for now.
