Jan. 3rd, 2013 08:39 amI made a thing!
Since finishing all my Christmas knitting, I have been really enjoying knitting stuff for me again. And, since it is a New Year, I decided it would be a good time to try to knit things I've always wanted to but not yet tried. So, on Sunday, I started my first ever attempt at stranded knitting.
( And here it is! )
The pattern promised me a slouchy floppy hat that I could put my hair up in. Alas, it did not turn out that way - I tend to knit tight and didn't check my gauge. Still, it is a very nice hat and I'm pleased with it.
I could feel myself leveling up as a knitter as I made it, too. The colorwork got easier, I figured out a new way to weave in ends as I went along, I got better at using the magic loop, and - best of all - I figured out how to knit English with one hand and Continental with the other. I'm still very slow at Continental, but it's nice to be able to work both ways.
Now my mom wants one too and I had enough fun knitting it - and it went fast enough - that it won't be a hardship to make another. (I may have to knit another one for me as well, since this one didn't turn out floppy enough. Maybe I could repeat a couple patter sections?)
