Aug. 27th, 2012 06:16 pmMom and Dad are driving Katie back to Santa Barbara. They left yesterday and are going to be gone for two weeks. I'm staying home and thus we are all having vacation at the same time.
My version of vacation does still involve going to work, but it also means coming home and not talking to people, which is pretty awesome. I am using my alone time to read comic books and knit, which is pretty much what I do when people are here but now no one looks at me funny when I do those things for excessive amounts of time. 8)
Alone time also involves lots of experimental cooking. I like to do that when people aren't around so that if it turns out to be awful, no one but me has to be exposed to awful food. Tried and tested food is for other people. Yesterday, I made bierocks, which are rolls stuffed with ground beef and cabbage and will be lunches for the week. Because I eat in the car a lot and thus lunch has be portable. They are pretty awesome, both when warm and when cold. I think next time I'd add some garlic but I feel that there's pretty much nothing that doesn't need more garlic.
Tonight, I am making roasted cauliflower with garlic and bacon (see?), along with mozzarella mac and cheese, which is a tried and tested recipe. (Pretty much, it is my favorite mac and cheese ever.) And I have apple cobbler. Later in the week, I am going to try to make yakisoba.
