darchildre: children reading books in a field. (books are for adventure!)
A library story from yesterday.

So, I'm shelving during one of the periods when a class from the school across the street has descended upon us. A little six-year-old girl walks up to me - I know she was six because she told me several times - and asks a question.

"I'm looking for books on animals."

I start walking her over to the 590's in the nonfiction picture books and ask her if she has a particular animal she's looking for. After a few minutes of thought, she tells me that she's looking for foxes.

Easy enough. I pull out a couple books on foxes and ask if they look like something she'd like.

"Wait, no. Not foxes. It's another word. I know I know the word!" I wait patiently for a moment. Finally, she comes out with it.

"Werewolves!"

That is a little girl after my own heart.

(Alas, we were unable to find her any books on werewolves that she didn't think looked too scary. And I only thought of it after she left, but if she comes in next times still wanting similar things, I'll try to find her some Japanese fairytales about kitsune.)
