And then I watched the pilot for The Flash (because of course I did).
EEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!
OMG, you guys, I am so excited about this show. I love this Barry - he is so earnest and good-hearted and kind and wonderful. I just want to ruffle his hair and hug him for being such an adorable nerdface superhero. Barry has never been my Flash (Wally West forever, dudes) but I do love him and I'm super stoked about seeing him on my tv.
Other things that are lovely:
- Iris! Oh, she's lovely and I want to know what her dissertation is on. I hope they don't keep her in the dark about the speedster thing for too long.
- Reverse Flash! Oh, I want to know who it is! (I am kinda hoping that we're going to do some sort of Hunter Zolomon arc with Eddie Thawne because I loved Hunter Zolomon and his Zoom is fucking terrifying, but part of me thinks that outright naming the guy "Thawne" makes that too obvious.)
- Tiny hilarious shoutouts where I had to pause the episode so I could explain them to my mom! The Grodd one was great (of course I want a talking evil gorilla telepath on this show) but my favorite was the Gambi cleaners. Because I have always found Mr Gambi's existence to be hilarious and adorable.
- Mardon brothers! I like the way they did this - giving Clyde powers first allows us to decisively defeat a Weather Wizard in the pilot while keeping one (the standard model) in our back pocket for later. It also gives Mark Mardon a handy motive for focusing on the Flash, rather than just robbing banks. (I do kinda miss Mark killing Clyde, because that's backstory I'm used to but hell, at least it's better than his backstory in the nu52, which is a ridiculous nonsensical mess that I ignore whenever possible.)
- Time travel! Yes, please, let's do all the ridiculous time travel. Bring on the Cosmic Treadmill!
I'm just so happy that this show already seems to be okay with utilizing some of the goofier aspects of the comics. Because the goofy is one of the reasons I love the Flash.
(Also: CAPTAIN COLD IN THE TRAILER, I AM SO EXCITED IT CANNOT BE EXPRESSED IN HUMAN LANGUAGE.)
