Have just completed my yearly self-appraisal.
I hate doing those things. For one thing, I (like many women) have a hard time talking about Ways in Which I Am Awesome. For another, the questions are stupid. (Have I demonstrated innovation thinking at the library in the past year? Hell if I know. Probably not.) For a third, I have to set goals and I hate setting goals at work.
I always want to scrawl across the whole thing: "I DID MY JOB". Expansion? "I came to work every day - early, in fact. I never left before I was supposed to. I never called in sick and I rarely took vacation. I checked in books. I checked out books. I helped people find books. I answered questions about a multiplicity of subjects. My patrons went away happy and my coworkers do not hate me. Were you ever displeased with me? Not that you mentioned. Because I did my job." Goals for the coming year? "My goal is to continue to come to work and do my job."
And now I get to anticipate sitting down with my manager and talking about it. Grar.
