Oct. 31st, 2011 05:42 pmThings I have learned today:
- The Pit and the Pendulum is kind of a boring movie
- Masque of the Red Death, however, is totally kickass. It has Satanist!Vincent Price, a woman being mauled to death by a hawk, a plot that makes sense and yet still feels like a dream, and the walking talking tarot-card reading personification of a plague. Awesome.
- And they did Hop Frog, which is totally my favorite Poe story. (Though the relationship between Hop Frog and Esmeralda is a little creepy onscreen, mostly because dubbing an older woman in for her lines does not erase the fact that that is clearly a 10 year old girl.)
- I like Mr Price so much more when he's being evil than when he's being fragile and haunted. Not that fragile and haunted isn't nice, but mostly I want Vincent Price to smirk at people and say witty things and then murder them horribly. Look, I imprinted on The Great Mouse Detective in many and varied ways, all right?
- The dvd with The Black Cat and The Raven on it no longer functions. I can watch the first 20 minutes of The Black Cat and then everything freezes - just long enough for Hjalmar to start leading Vitus down the spiral stair into the creepy basement of dead ladies and Satanists. It's terribly sad.
Still, I got a few fun movies in, and a lot of knitting. And now I have to get ready for choir.
