In which I am not like other people:

So, a week or so ago, I checked out Bonk by Mary Roach because sex + science = pretty fascinating. And I've been enjoying reading it. And then, this week, I got another book by her - Stiff, because corpses + science = also fascinating. I am enjoying that one also.

What I have discovered over the course of reading them is that while I have no problem eating while reading descriptions of the decay and putrefaction of human organs (like chicken soup!), I am not actually capable of eating while reading about semen, even when couched in the driest and most scientific terms.

So that is my asexual!Sara thought of the day. Putrefying corpses - in some ways, less icky than sex.*





*I mean, if you are into sex, awesome. Seriously, good for you. I am not judging! But, y'know...fluids. Icky.

So how is the book itself? I read Stiff and enjoyed the writing style and the description of things.

It's a lot of fun - fluffy, but informative. I'm enjoying reading it.

Funnily enough, I have a friend who has a few phobias...one of which is fluids = icky, therefore, not so much with sex. They aren't particularly offended by the, ah, pleasure part...but the messiness skeeves them out. I don't think they're asexual, actually, but I just found the correlation interesting. Sorry, that's one of my random thoughts for the day.

Other people's fluids = kinda gross. I imagine there are a lot of a sexual people who think that about sex, even if they have fun with it at the same time.

Asexuality is usually characterized as "lack of sexual attraction" - I'm asexual because I have never once looked at another person and thought "I would like to have sex with them". (Which...doesn't mean that I don't find people attractive. People are aesthetically appealing or personally interesting or whatever. And I can generally tell if a person is "sexy", because society has trained that ability into me. But I don't really get it, y'know?) So if your friend wants to have sex with people but doesn't because of the fluid thing, then no, I wouldn't guess that they're ace. Though, of course, it's not really my place to say. 8)
