A question:

So, I've just come back from picking out the songs for church in December. This involves me and two other women, both slightly over middle-aged, raised in Protestant (if not necessarily Methodist) churches. At one point, I suggested that we sing Dona Nobis Pacem on one of the Sundays we were preparing for. They had apparently never heard of the song before (one of them stared at me and then said, "Speak English, please,"*), even after I sang it for them. I was under the impression that it was a fairly common and well-known song.

So. Assuming that you were raised Christian (though that's not necessary to have learned it, as I've sung it in school and community choirs), do you know Dona Nobis Pacem? Or is it just me foolishly assuming that because I know something, other people do too?

I was in choir for several years in school (public, non-religious) and we sung it a couple times. I am very fond of the song!

Raised Episcopalian (up to 11) and Catholic (after that)

Learned it.. might have been earlier, but I'm sure we did it in high school chorus, and plenty of people I've run into since know it (usually through the same way.)

I definitely know it and have sung it before. But, you know, that's ten solid years of Protestant (Evangelical Lutheran) catechism and church attendance.

It was up there with Gloria in excelsis Deo and Laudato Si in how often we sang it though.

I have sung something with that name in my lifetime. May or may not be the one that you're thinking of. But then again, I also got to hear and sing full Catholic services. (If all the services were sung like that, people might be more inclined to go to them...)

I know it from being around musicians, even though I wasn't raised Christian.

I don't recognize it from the name. The melody might be familiar if I heard it, but I'm pretty sure I wasn't exposed to it in church. (Raised Baptist in Canada.)

Christian until mid-teens. In (Catholic) primary school we learned songs and hymns for church but this isn't familiar at all.

born and raised catholic and attended catholic schools (in australia, japan, and the US) for most of my childhood, but that's not at all familiar to me. i could've just forgotten it. though i do seem to recall an unfortunate number of hymns and things.
