Hey, everybody, October is more than half over and Halloween is nearly upon us. Thus, it is time for music about monsters, don't you think?
Today's theme is: Songs For When You Find That You Have Fallen In Love With a Monster.
Here is the zip file. Enjoy!
Today's theme is: Songs For When You Find That You Have Fallen In Love With a Monster.
- 1) Lady Gaga - Monster: We French kissed on a subway train. He tore my clothes right off, he ate my heart and then he ate my brain.
You're in love with a monster. Might as well dance. - 2) Seanan McGuire - Some Girls: You can call it necrophilia and say it's vile. I just know I wanna do it George Romero style.
I have Thoughts about how the fact that now we can actually write songs and books eroticizing zombies (even in a joking manner) means that we as a society are as over zombies as we are vampires and I'm really waiting to see what the next big monster archetype will be but right now, I mostly just think this song is awesome. - 3) The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - Burrow Your Way to My Heart: Do you have any love left for me? I'm small and that's a start. Eat me up with your love, burrow your way to my heart.
Umm...warning for squicky bugs, I guess? - 4) Abney Park - I Am Stretched On Your Grave: I still would be your husband, through rain and through storm, for with you in your cold grave I cannot sleep warm.
Good old fashioned Gothic necrophilia. Gotta love the classics. - 5) Lady Gaga - Teeth: Need a man, now show me your fangs.
Nicely disturbing in its directness. - 6) The Darkest of the Hillside Thickets - The Innsmouth Look: I dig her batrachian lips, her bulbous eyes, and scaly hips...
We've established my thing about fish people, I think. - 7) Florence and the Machine - Howl: Be careful of the curse that falls on young lovers, starts so soft and sweet and turns them to hunters.
I'm not hugely into werewolves, but you have to love a song that directly quotes The Wolfman, y'know? - 8) Seanan McGuire - Courting Gifts: I don't ever get invited out to a show and the EPA's condemned most places we go. Before we met, I didn't know ichor could glow. We have our own unique chemistry.
Well, I had to get at least one mad scientist on here. (Also, this song is pretty much the Herbert/Dan Re-Animator AU that lives in my head. Yes.) - 9) Florence and the Machine - My Boy Builds Coffins: He's made one for himself, one for me too. One of these days, he'll make one for you.
Okay, no, coffin builders are not actually monsters. It's pleasantly creepy nonetheless. - 10) Ludo - The Horror of Our Love: I will grind against your bones until our marrows mix. I will eat you slowly.
The first verse is more quotable but the second verse - the vampire verse - is totally my favorite. For fairly obvious Renfield-related reasons, yes.
