So today, being my day off, I went to the movies. And since seeing Inception three Mondays in a row is kinda edging into ridiculous territory*, I went to see Salt. Because who doesn't love movies about kickass women shooting things?


First, I would like to say that the sequence in the bunker where Salt is wearing men's pants and a white button-down shirt and has cut her hair short and androgynous and just rips through bunches of people, kicking all of their asses? That is really fucking hot. Not that Angelina Jolie is not pretty much always attractive, but damn.

Second, y'know what really impressed me? This is a really little thing but, at the beginning of the film, when Salt first figures out that people are going to be after her and she needs to get away, one of the first things she does is kick off her impractical high-heeled shoes and proceed to kick ass barefoot till she can get to a pair of boots. It was pleasing.





*Which is not to say that I don't want to see it again, because I do. (I have read a lot of Inception fic recently, okay?) Only that kind of regularity edges toward dorkier than I want to be.

Salt isn't out yet in the UK, but it's definitely on my must-see list. I'm hearing really good things about it.

First things first: My friend The Chef has seen Inception, I kid you not, 5 times now. (Possibly 6, if he's gone again since I saw it with him last week.)

Secondly: Oh, the brilliance that Salt took off her shoes. I want to see this movie, but none of my other friends are interested. Le sigh.

Heh. Okay, I don't feel quite so dorky now. All I've done is read a truly inordinate amount of fanfic and wish that I had the dvd already. (Probably, I will go again this weekend. First time is for seeing a film, second time is for noticing what you missed the first time, third time+ is for fannish squee.)

Also, how could anyone not be interested in Salt? Beautiful, sensible, competent woman kicks the ass of everyone in the general vicinity and also things explode! And Angelina Jolie speaks Russian! And there is Chiwetel Ejiofor! I do not understand not being interested in this film.

Because a lot of my friends don't think Jolie can act worth salt. Ha, ha. :p
Makes me sad.

...but it is an action movie. You go to watch attractive people blow stuff up. Good acting is sort of an unlooked for bonus.

I personally think that Ms Jolie's acting is perfectly competent but then, I'm willing to watch movies with Keanu Reeves in them, so I doubt I'm really a good judge of that sort of thing.

And see, this is why I end up going to most movies by myself. (Also because then when I talk to myself during the film, no one is sitting right next to me to look at me funny.)
