So, today I went to church and then to work and then I came home. And, as my sister is coming back from her studying abroad tonight and everyone else has gone to the airport and won't be back till very late, I am having a quiet evening alone. I would have liked to have gone to pick up Katie but it didn't work out and I am never going to begrudge a nice evening at home alone.
So I downloaded the first episode of that BBC Sherlock thing and have just finished watching it.
I thought that was pretty much excellent. I am not entirely sold on their Holmes but I can certainly work with him. However! Martin Freeman's Watson is totally awesome and I love him to little pieces.
Other things I loved:
- They did Study in Scarlet and it wasn't boring! And there weren't any evil Mormons! Amazing!
- Lestrade! Who is adorkable. (When did I become such a Lestrade fan? How did that happen? I blame Colin Jeavons.) I was a little worried that he was going to be insufferably stupid, as I hate when that happens to people who aren't Holmes in Holmes stories and it tends to happen either to Watson or Lestrade or both. But here it happened to neither of them, hurrah! Oh, the scene where Lestrade and all the other police officers are searching Holmes' flat for drugs! So hilariously wonderful!
- Mycroft! Hello, Mark Gatiss, you are kind of adorable. And I'm terribly pleased that you were Mycroft because you either had to be Mycroft or Moriarty and you being Moriarty would have been showing the hand a little too early.
- Semi-textual asexuality! Okay, I know Holmes is one of the few characters that most people point to and say, "Look! Asexual!" but it's still nice to have it (almost) outright stated.*
Things I do not love:
- That I have to wait till next Sunday for more. Stupid watching-tv-when-it-is-on-tv.
*In my personal canon, most Holmeses are homoromantic asexuals. I am willing to read Holmes having sex (as is evidenced by the large amount of Katie Forsythe fic currently on my kindle) but when I read the actual stories, Holmes is ace.
Now I am going to watch more Doctor Who.

Date: 2010-07-27 04:04 pm (UTC)I told her you liked it, that there were things you felt were a little off, but that you felt you could "work" with their Holmes. It also made her happy that neither Lestrade nor Watson are idiots.
The two of you should really "Friend" up on facebook, just to talk about Holmes. ::laughter::
