Things of lately:
- Auditioned for a solo in chorale last night. I think I was the best of the women who auditioned (because I am awesome), but I suppose I'll have to wait till next week to see what the director decides.
- I'm really enjoying the jazz we're doing this session. Though, it is occasionally weird because the songs are all pretty much standards so they're vaguely familiar but I don't really know them. And then, in the middle of the song I'll realize, "Oh, this is that song that Emma Murdoch sings in Dark City - except that we are doing it much faster." So that's a little odd.
- Also, we are singing Just One of Those Things, which is the most Cole Porter-y Cole Porter song that ever Cole Porter-ed. I mean, it's fun, but wow.
- And now, because there is nothing happening at work, an icon meme, snurched from
melengro:
1. Comment to this entry and I will pick 7 of your icons.
2. Make an entry in your own journal and talk about the icons I picked!
melengro asked me about:

keywords: candles are for hope
This is my default, so it doesn't get used much on actual posts, but does get used for a majority of my comments. I like candles. I think candles in dark rooms are tremendously hopeful things.

keywords: post-apocalyptic monks! eeee!
So, this is a quote from A Canticle for Leibowitz, which is a pretty awesome book about the rebuilding of the world after a nuclear cataclysm, shown through the experiences of a Catholic monastery. It is a pretty great book, which I should totally reread, and the quote on my icon made me laugh and laugh. It is one of my absurdity icons.

keywords: scarecrow
I don't actually know why I like scarecrows as much as I do. It probably has the same root as my love of ragdolls. Scarecrows are basically ragdolls, after all - just ragdolls full of straw and associated with crows. And crows are great, of course. I didn't make this icon but alas, I do not know who did. If it was you, let me know so that I can credit you.

keywords: shiny
made by
truncat
I think of myself as being fairly corvine in a lot of ways, which is to be expected, given my love of crows. One of the main ways this manifests is my love of shiny objects. Seriously, you give me a button or a pretty rock or a piece of string and I am happy for minutes on end. I tend to use the word "shiny" fairly loosely, to mean something that is pretty or attractive or in other ways desirable. So pretty yarn is shiny and so are exciting socks or colorful stones or new dvds. This is my icon for corvine love of shiny.

keywords: servalan
This is Servalan, from Blakes 7. She is badass and better than everybody at everything, which is why she gets to be called Supreme Commander and we don't. I tend to use this icon when I want to express that the person I am talking to or about has done something amusingly foolish but not stupid enough to break out the "you are so dumb that Herbert West has to break pencils at you" icon. Or when I want to look at something especially pretty.

keywords: puddleglum
If there are people out there who don't like Puddleglum, I do not wish to know them. If you have not met him, then you should get yourself a copy of The Silver Chair right now, because it is the best Narnia book and everyone should read it because everyone's life needs more marshwiggles. Puddleglum is for marshwiggly posts, about how life sucks and there is nothing you can do about it, like how it always rains when you want to go to the zoo, or how you dropped your breakfast toast and it landed butter-down on the dog. (Serious sad stuff gets other icons.)

keywords: grar! i'm a scary monster!
Cybermats! I want a cybermat! I made myself a plush one and it is wonderful, but gosh, it would be awesome to have a real one. If it didn't kill me. I think cybermats are one of the shiniest things that Doctor Who ever did, and I would love to see them come back. Not that they ever actually did much, but they were terribly fun. The cybermat icon is for monsters that are not covered under my other monster icons or for when I am being scary. Because the cybermat is effectively terrifying, you know.
