Oct. 22nd, 2009 10:59 amToday is the day that always happens about a week before Halloween when I start getting the Big Box o' Horror Films out of the closet and go through to see what I haven't watched in a while. (Or at all. It happens, y'know?)
This year, I have pulled out The Old Dark House (James Whale, Boris Karloff, and Ernest Thesiger, oh my), Sweeney Todd (1936, starring the appropriately named Tod Slaughter, I have never actually watched this), and Horror Express (Peter Cushing and Christopher Lee, actual honest-to-god mad Russian monk, watch half of it once and never finished due to distraction).* And I put a bunch of Hammer films I haven't seen on hold at the library. And some Vincent Price because it really isn't Halloween without Vincent Price, right?
I think that I need to buy Haunted Palace. They showed it this year at the HPLFF and it was awesome. Mr Price was great in it, as was (surprisingly) Lon Chaney Jr, and it was marvelously atmospheric and creepy. And there was a castle with a badass staircase and I am always a sucker for those. I think my mom would really like it, but they do not have it at either the library or Netflix, more's the pity.
Really, I should buy more Vincent Price movies in general. I mean, I have Dr Phibes and House of Wax but I think that's it. And surely everyone should have a copy of The Tingler?
*To be completely honest, I also pulled out the copy of Castle Freak because I haven't watched that one since the first time I watched it, lo these many moons ago. But it is sort of not really on the list of Fun Family Halloween Entertainment, y'know? So it is not so much going on the above list.
