Jun. 23rd, 2009 04:30 pmOkay, our system of managing holiday time at work has officially reached the level of Completely Fucking Insane.
We do this crazy-ass thing where...gods, it's even incredibly difficult to explain. So, for example, I never work Mondays, right? But a lot of holidays fall on a Monday. So I get holiday pay for those Mondays but, because I don't actually work on Mondays, I have to take that time off somewhere else. And since I work at two different branches at two different positions, I have to take part of it off at Kingston and part of it off at Bainbridge instead of lumping it all together and getting an entire day off. Which is stupid. Seriously, I would rather just not get paid for a day on which I do not work, since the amount of money I make works out the same.
Plus, we no longer get paid for staff meetings. So, when we have a staff meeting, we have to take the same amount of time off somewhere else within the same pay period. Which is also stupid and does not convince me that I want to go to the staff meetings.
And the Fourth of July is coming up. So I have to take holiday flex time for that. Within the same pay period, we have a staff meeting, which again requires me to take flex time. This is stupid but manageable. But we also have a Fourth of July parade, which I had planned to participate in, figuring that yes, I would get paid for the parade because, y'know, it's working on a holiday. But no, apparently not. Apparently, I would have to take more fucking flex time for that. Within, again, the same fucking pay period. And if I worked at a large branch with a lot of employees to cover when one of us takes off, that would be fine. But no - I work at Kingston, which has a grand total of 6 people working here so it's like a huge stupid puzzle of interlocking time off.
I am so freaking tempted to just say, "Fuck it - screw the parade. I'm not going." Because this is fucking crazy and I am so sick of dealing with it.
