I went for a walk this evening to the park near my house that I don't usually go to. The other park has a walking trail and is bigger, so I usually go there.

The little park, however, has a wealth of interesting flora. There's horsetails everywhere, which I'll have to remember for next spring - they're well past the point of edibility now. Right now, though, there are salmonberry vines, making these the most easily accessible salmonberries I've found yet. There aren't a lot on them right now and since most of the salmonberries I know the locations of are harder to get to, I haven't yet observed whether we're late or early in the season here. I'm going to make a point of walking to that park every couple of days for the next few weeks to make observations and, maybe, pick berries. It would be fun to get enough to make at least one jar of jam.

The little park is also covered in blackberry brambles (because everything around here is covered in blackberry brambles - they're northwest kudzu) and there's a little group of apple trees as well. It's a lovely little overgrown place - I really should go there more often.
