darchildre: a scarecrow with a pumpkin head, looking menacing (halloween)

This evening, I'm planning some Halloween spookytimes entertainment for myself later in the month. (My sister does a 31 Days of Halloween thing every year, which I admire, but I find that if I try to do that, I lose steam halfway through the month. Thus, I am having a Halloween Fortnight.) In past years, my Halloween entertainment has revolved around finding and watching newer spooky stuff, but this year, I want to revisit spooks I know and love. So I'm going to watch a lot of 1930s and 40s horror, and reread A Night in the Lonesome October and my John Bellairs collection.

But, in perusing my John Bellairs collection, I've realized that I don't actually own The Mansion in the Mist (which is one of my favorites) so I've been looking at what's available at my various libraries. Which leads me to a question:

Have any of you read any of the Brad Strickland-written "John Bellairs" books? Are they worth reading? I am wary of them, as I am wary of any author taking over for another, but some of them have extremely good titles.
