A sequence of events:

- About two weeks ago, I remembered that the new Good Omens show is coming out soon

- Then I went and reread Ordinary People

- Then I read a huge amount of other Good Omens fic

- And started listening to the audiobook

- (Okay, and also listened to the BBC radioplay)

- And today I spent a lot of time going down wikipedia rabbit holes about angelology

- And now I have once again reached the point where what I want most of all is fiction with angels in it that isn't either trying to convert me to Christianity or urban fantasy/paranormal romance and I am having trouble finding it. (There's nothing wrong with paranormal romance, I just don't want to bang an angel. I want to know that angel's thoughts and feelings about the War in Heaven.)

Friends, do any of you have recommendations of fiction with angels in it? I am not fussed as to medium. I will also accept demons, if at least some of them are explicitly fallen angels.

That's what puts me off "Supernatural", the Christian dogma/supertition.

Oh, oh! Richard Kadrey's Sandman Slim series! Angels, demons, humans, and the Good and Evil sides are not always. Goodish representation of female characters, esp. as you go further into the series, though the spotlight remains on the male protag, Jim. But I love it, and what Kadrey does with God and Lucifer and the whole world-building.

The series is at 10 or 11 books, I think? My local library has several of them, and they are all available as ebooks.

Ah, see, the last time I did this, Supernatural (at least seasons 4 and 5) was at least close to what I wanted. For me personally, I didn't feel like the show was trying to convert me, so I could just enjoy the touches of Christian mythology. To each their own, of course. 8)

Right? I always feel like there ought to be a lot more fiction about the War in Heaven and I'm always surprised when there isn't.

I wish I could help, but all I can come up with is Supernatural. There really should be more of this sort of thing...

I know, right? I asked this same question over at metafilter 6 years ago and there doesn't seem to have been much improvement since, other than 6 more seasons of Supernatural.

This is a really interesting question as everything I can think of has some sort of romance element in it.

I did think about Simon Green's Nightside books but the angels aren't the central plot.

I don't object to romance being present - it is damned difficult to find books without romance at all - I'm just not looking for it as a main focus.

When I was a teen, it was pretty much the main thing I wanted to write about, tbh. Never got anything finished, but my planning got fairly elaborate.

The TV show Dominion was pretty good on just having angels around doing angels stuff, iirc. I mostly remember going 'ooh pretty' at winged people, so, uh, I don't remember much else...
