One of the librarians at my branch is doing this Mini Monet program starting next week - it's a make-and-take program where patrons get a bag with a 4x4 inch canvas and one of those kids boxes of watercolor paints, paint whatever they want using it (or whatever other materials they have at home that they want to use), and bring it back for us to have a mini exhibition. She gave everyone who works at my branch a kit a few weeks early so that we could have examples when the program starts - she wants them back on Monday, so I've been working on mine this week.

I'm not a person who has any real talent for painting or drawing, but I am a person who loves art supplies, so I have some watercolor stuff. And you guys, I have gone absurdly too hard for this tiny nothing painting. Like, multiple preliminary experiments before actually using the canvas to make sure that I like the colors I've chosen and stuff. It's very silly, but I'm having a lot of fun.

I don't do a lot of playing with visual art, partly because I've never felt I was any good at it and partly because there is something in me that dislikes making art/craft objects that aren't in some way useful*, but maybe I should play with watercolors more.




*This is not a judgement - I think it's cool that other people want to make that kind of art. It's just not something I usually want to do.
