darchildre: the tenth doctor and sarah jane hugging (*hugs*)
I was talking to my parents this evening about how, in an ideal world, politics should be like plumbing. It's important and necessary but most of the time, you don't maybe have to think about all the tiny plumbing minutiae that makes the water in your house work. And yeah, you and the plumber and the people you live with might have different ideas about what the fixtures should be like, and some times you have to tear out the entire sink and put in a new one because the old one was bad and didn't work. But you're pretty sure that the pipes function in general and that the people you call when something goes wrong know how to fix it. In an ideal world.

But for the last four years, all the plumbers we've been able to call have been scam artists who've never seen a pipe in their lives. Our kitchen has flooded and all the toilets are backed up and we're still being charged for work that never got done.

Biden's not going to be perfect. There is a lot of work left to do. But right now, I'm just so relieved that we have actually finally hired a real goddamned plumber.
