(no subject)

I drove past a blue heron this morning. He was sitting completely still in the middle of the road, with his neck pulled in as far as possible, looking like a big feathery lump. He didn't look hurt so I can only imagine he walked out into the road when there weren't any cars and then couldn't figure out how to get away. He had parked himself in a turn lane (so not directly in traffic), waiting. Herons are pretty good at patient.

I am quite concerned for him but also he looked completely absurd and I can't stop giggling at the image.
