So, my choir does this thing in the summer where we have a couple weeks of community singalongs - they're mostly attended by chorale members, but anyone is welcome. You get a score and we all sightread music together and sing it (badly) and it's fun. I don't always attend because the church we hold them in has no air conditioning and is made entirely of windows that don't open, so it's very hot, but I'll go if we're previewing a piece that we're going to sing in the upcoming season.

Last night, we sang Brahms' Deutsches Requiem, which we're going to be performing next April. This was my first time singing through it and also my first time reading the German text.

You guys, did you know that in German, instead of the Last Trumpet sounding at the End of All Things, it's a Last Trombone?

I am so happy to know this, the trombone is an infinitely funnier instrument than a trumpet and the idea of Gabriel or indeed any angel ever* playing a trombone at the End Times is going to fill me with glee for days.

*Gabriel-or-indeed-any-angel is not mentioned in the text of the Requiem because an angel playing a trumpet at the End Times is Christian fanon, but still. Funny.
