darchildre: steel kissing sapphire's hand (a good working relationship)
A couple weeks ago, one of the patrons at the Kingston library started putting Avengers* dvds on hold. Now, the way our dvd collection works is that once a dvd gets checked in at a branch, it stays there until checked out or put on hold. That way the collection is, potentially, constantly being refreshed. So we had all these Avengers dvds sitting on our shelf and staring at me.

So I took them home. I am spending the day doing Christmas knitting and watching Steed and Mrs Peel banter adorably while dealing with ridiculous plots and ludicrously choreographed fight scenes. The thing is, the last time I was watching the Avengers, I watched a bunch of early stuff. (For example, I have watched all the library had of the episodes with Cathy Gale. Who is awesome, btw.) I drifted away before I got much past the first season with Emma Peel. Now I have reached the point in her run where things are suddenly in color. It's weirdly shocking. (I feel that way about bits of the Third Doctor's run as well. Sudden color! Oh no, what do I do!?)

Also, I have now watched the episode that was apparently banned from American tv because of Diana Rigg in a corset and dog collar. Which was exciting. Also, there was an episode full of secretaries killing their bosses on the orders of the creepiest ventriloquist's dummy I have ever seen. Which, personally, I am glad was not in color.

I should go look for fic for this show again.

ETA - And then, hilariously, the first color episode of the Avengers had John Pertwee on it. Playing a brigadier.

*The other ones.
