Hooray, the power is back!

It went out about 6 o'clock on Tuesday night and didn't come back until early this morning. We're fairly lucky, in that we have a gas fireplace and a gas stove and thus can still make coffee and copious amounts of tea, but it was still very cold. The libraries were closed yesterday (and are again today), so I spent yesterday doing pre-holiday cleaning and crocheting a scarf, because it was cold and I didn't have one. Now I do.

And now the power is back and we have heat and the toaster works and it is basically the best early birthday present ever. Hurrah.

Have finished Monsters in the Closet. It was, overall, an interesting read, and I have a list of films that I want to watch and that will make my family make fun of me. Which is what happens when you tell people who aren't interested in the history of horror film that you want to watch Blacula. (Well, actually, what happens first is that they think you've made that title up to be ridiculous. After you explain that it's a real film they make fun of you.)

Alas, the book has also left me once again feeling vaguely like a failure because I don't like Clive Barker. I want to like Clive Barker! I like his premises and his world building! I just can't seem to get attached to any of his characters. It is a problem.

Maybe I will try Imajica again. I own that one, after all, and it had really nifty world building. And Pie 'oh' Pah, who I sorta kinda liked. Maybe it'll take this time.
