When I read I get sort of vague visual impressions but nothing very definite at all, which is why I often end up skimming descriptive passages, because I know they aren't going to work. And then I'm going to be surprised by them later, when characters are mentioned to have blond hair.* I do, however, get voices when I read - narrator voices and character voices, often very distinct and different from each other, and listening to those voices is my preferred method of media intake. Which is probably why I like audiobooks so much and why I tend to "watch" tv by not really looking at the screen much when there's a lot of dialogue.
Sometimes, though, the voices in my head somehow, for no reason I can fathom, get switched to slow motion, like someone has turned the speed down on the recording. And everything I read goes by at half-speed with the words all stretched out and warped. I can't make it stop and it's disorienting and weird and I hate it.
My brain has been doing that all morning. Grar.
